GRW

As suspected/expected, Han Han stood up for Google in his latest blog entry.  While seeing Google's decision to withdraw from China as purely an idealistic gesture might be too romantic, it does ring a bell that internet filtering is becoming increasingly unpopular and irritating.

HH once posted an entry that ZF must have regretted for the millionth time its decision to introduce the Internet into China.  As one Chinese saying goes, "Keeping a tiger cub around and one day it will bite you back."  The Internet is one of those cubs introduced in the 1990s and has grown into a mature beast that has, more or less, refused to be tamed under the whippings and lashings of the local authority.  Unlike radio, print and the television, it is a media that goes underground when the "wind is tough" and resurfaces when the coast is clear.  And thank God for such a media!!
